The Expert Panel presented its final report and recommendations to Vice-President Tajani at a conference in Rome, “Meeting the Challenge of Europe 2020: The transformative Power of Service Innovation”, on 17-18 February 2011. This conference was hosted by Confindustria which has been represented in, and actively contributed to, the work of the Expert Panel. The Rome Conference marked the start of an awareness raising campaign on the importance of service innovation that will take place throughout 2011. Events are being organised in collaboration with national and regional ministries , innovation agencies and business representatives in different Member States, and they focus on the Expert Panel’s recommendation that there is a need for a mind-shift towards strengthening the role of service innovation as a lever for modernising industrial policy to fully exploit the transformative power of service innovation, and how the Structural Funds can be mobilised to support this process.
